Didn’t really intend to do a proper ‘unboxing’ type video, but I thought since this thing is pretty new and that I had the camera on me I’d shoot some video of the initial unboxing and setup. This is one of the new wave of ‘ultra mobile’ notebooks, one step up from a netbook. It features an 11.6″ screen, Intel Pentium Dual Core SU4100 processor (1.3GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB), 3GB DDR2 memory, 250GB 5400rpm SATA-II hard disk, and uses the Intel GM4500MHD integrated graphics. Initial impressions are pretty good. The screen is a bit low contrast, but to be expected on a device of this price. The battery life seems to be pretty epic – 8 hours shouldn’t be impossible with average usage. Wireless reception is very good. The device is very quiet, and remains pretty cool to the touch during use. Good keyboard making use of the full width of the device. HDMI port for hooking up to a TV. Only thing I’m really missing is built in bluetooth, but that’s easily solved with a tiny USB dongle. Windows 7 Home Premium runs very quickly on this unit – boot time is good and responsiveness is excellent. Feels a fair bit more responsive than my Dell Latitude XT, a device costing far more! This was shot indoors hence the nasty 50Hz light flicker – nothing I could do about that unfortunately ![]()
